OPIK was an annual week-long summer camp for
Unitarian
Universalist teens. It took place in Tar Hollow State Park, near Chillicothe in
Southern Ohio, 1969-78. The organization was LRY (Liberal Religious Youth); OVF*
and GodArful** were the sponsor
LRY federations.
For some kids LRY and OPIK were a huge deal. Local LRY groups,
weekend conferences and summer camps provided a group of like-minded
companions, often connected to
and influenced by the 1960's counterculture and
anti-Vietnam War movement. The camaraderie and learning experiences positively impacted
many lives - and stuck in memories.
In September 2004 - 30 years after my last OPIK - I took a
sentimental journey to Tar Hollow; for two hours memories danced,
laughed and taunted - it was cool and weird - but OPIK and LRY no longer whisper a few steps behind me.
These pages are for the few hundred people who attended the 10 OPIKs,
to refresh memories and reconnect acquaintances.
Photographs from Tar Hollow Sept 04 can be found on this site
under the Tar Hollow 2004 link.
Enjoy,
